VICKSBURG, MISS. – Celene Conley of Fallbrook is one of 186 men and women who pledged to perform 10 months of national service in the southern region’s 20th class of the National Civilian Community Corps (NCCC), as a member of FEMA Corps.

As part of her service, Conley spent 10 months serving with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) in the administration of emergency management and long term recovery activities.

“I heard about AmeriCorps NCCC while curiously searching about the Peace Corps, and thought that this would be a great opportunity for me to do something different and expand my knowledge of the country by helping areas that had been affected by natural disasters,” said Conley.

Conley graduated on June 5 in a ceremony held at the Massenburg Memorial Athletic Center in Vicksburg, Miss. She will earn an education award of $5,550, which can be used to continue education or pay back qualified student loans.

“Starting fall 2014, I will attend the University of Northern Colorado to finish my bachelor’s degree in sociology and psychology. After this, my next goal is to get my master’s to become a school psychologist, therapist or counselor to continue my path of helping others,” said Conley.

Conley is a 2010 graduate of Fallbrook High School.
