Re: ‘Leash-free dog area at Live Oak Park not a good idea’ [01/02/2014]

It seems Ms. Wesson’s conclusion may be based on inaccurate information.

The proposed off-leash area is at the south end of the park, across the street from and completely fenced off from the main body of the park; the park is not proposing to turn the entire park into an off-leash area. Those who wish to enjoy their dogs on leash in Live Oak Park will simply continue to do so, as they always have.

Her experience with an irresponsible dog owner was unfortunate, yet points out the need for an off-leash area – there are those that just want to let their dogs romp a bit off leash and of course they should never mingle with leashed dogs. She did the right thing by reporting this to the ranger; in a perfect world one should be able to expect rules to be enforced.

When the park successfully opens its first off-leash area for Fallbrook dogs, Ms. Wesson will be free to use the largest part of Live Oak Park with her dog leashed, while those wishing a different experience will have use of the off-leash area.

A totally separate, fenced, off-leash area within Live Oak Park is definitely a step in the right direction, providing a no-excuses option for those who just have to drop the leash.

I have been an active participant in the off-leash area fund-raising effort, along with hundreds of other Fallbrook residents, and look forward to this addition to Live Oak Park.

Well if they want to walk their dogs with bangers, tweakers, etc, who am I to argue. I say, let them have their dog park.

I my experiences, people who live in the area (hillies) already have acres of land for their dogs to run and play. Townies need their dogs at home to keep the bangers, tweakers from cleaning out their homes.

If these folks wanted to live in Del Mar, should have moved there.
